Y Family story

Mr & Mrs Y, a 55 year old husband and wife from Russia were referred to the CRC when their Home Office support was abruptly terminated. Mr X had limited use of his left arm following an attack, they also had a 27 year old son with severe mental health problems.

When Social services refused help the family were referred to the Peace House, a night shelter accessible only between the hours of 9.30 pm and 8.00 am. Outside of those hours the family wandered the streets without food, drink or adequate winter clothing.

The CRC caseworker who took their case referred them to an immigration solicitor who made a fresh claim to the Home Office on their behalf. The family now have Section 4 support and a flat to accommodate them as a family. Mr X is receiving medical care for the first time in 3 years and their son is receiving medical and psychiatric care. The whole family have now received leave to remain.
